Wire and Cable: –
Here are two terms one is wire and another is cable. But when we analyse then we found a metal wire found in everywhere (wire and cable). But in practical life when a bare conductor is use in wiring, it’s called wire and when a conductor is insulated with insulating material it’s called a cable.
In wiring, we use many types of cable. The classification of wiring cables are given below.
One the basis of conductor material: –
We cannot use any types of metal for wiring cable. We use mainly two types of metal for wiring cable.
- Copper conductor cable
- Aluminium conductor Cable
On the basis of number of cores: –
There are mainly four types of cable on the basis of number of cores.
- Single core cable
- Double core cable
- Triple core cable
- Double core with earth connecting wire
On the basis of voltages: –
Wiring cables are mainly two types on the basis voltage. Which is given below.
- 230/440-volt grade cable
- 650/1100-volt grade cable
On the basis of Insulating material: –
There are many types of cable presents on the basis of Insulating material. Which is given below.
Vulcanized India rubber: –
In this cable vulcanized rubber are use in the form of insulating material. That’s why we called it’s a VIR cable. This type of cable is use in cleat wiring and conduit pipe wiring. This type of cable is available in both aluminium and copper conductor. And this cable is also available in both voltage grade 230/440-volt grade and 650/1100-volt. But these types of cable are not use at currently. PVC cable is replaced it.
Polyvinyl chloride cable (PVC Cable): –
This cable is insulated PVC insulating material. That’s why its called PVC cable. This cable is most common cable which is use in every type of wiring. Because this cable is versatile cable. This cable is use in cleat wiring, TRS, and conduit pipe wiring. PVC cable is available in both conductor aluminium and copper. This cable is also available in both voltage grade.
Lead sheathed cable: –
This cable is use in all types of wiring system. A lead layer is placed on the outer layer of insulating material. This lead sheathed layer is protected cable from mechanical injury. This type of cable is also use where weather changes continuously and mechanical injury can avail. This cable is also available in both voltage grade.
Weather proof cable: –
This type of cable is use where weather is changes continuously like raining, sharp sunny season and winter season etc. This cable’s conductor is protected by its insulator. This type of insulators widely uses in industrial area. Because in industrial area we need less maintenance and long-lasting cable. That’s why this cable is perfect for industrial use. This cable is also available in both voltage grade.
Flexible cable: –
As the name depicts that this cable is flexible so that we can fold anywhere. This cable conductors made form a bundle of thin wire so that it can be flexible. Apart from that, cable isolator made from different type of silk, cotton, and plastic. Todays, this type of cable is mostly use in regular life like fan, heater, table fan, radio etc. Due flexible this cable is easy to bend anywhere and suitable to fold.
